Harley Gaber’s DIE PLAGE
Harley Gaber’s DIE PLAGE is a sprawling and immersive work of contemporary art, comprising thousands of meticulously curated and collaged canvases, recombining images from Weimar and Holocaust-era Germany. OJMCHE’s posthumous presentation of this epic work transforms the museum’s main gallery into an immersive and devastating installation that remixes the brutal facts of Holocaust history, challenges understanding of what the Holocaust means today, and provides no easy answers to the questions it raises. BPDesign was exhibit designer for all custom interpretive elements, including low kiosks with reflection questions, and a full wall — “We are all collages” — exploring the life, influences and creative practice of the artist. Curated by Melissa Martens Yaverbaum, Executive Director, Council of American Jewish Museums. Event photography Mario Gallucci, courtesy of OJMCHE.
